Applications open for Suffolk Coastal Constituency PPC

Applications opened this afternoon for a new Conservative PPC for Suffolk Coastal, the seat vacated by John Gummer who is stepping down to focus on climate change and environmental issues.  John held a majority of 9,674 over Labour in the 1995 General Election.

Applications will close at midday on Monday 18th January and the final selection will be conducted at a special general meeting of the association on Saturday February 6th.  Selection will take place under the “old rules” process with a shortlist of 6 candidates since notice was served before 1st January 2010 .

As a “safe seat” competition for the seat will be intense.  As was the case in West Suffolk, however, there will certainly be pressure from the “grassroots” constituency for a local or regional candidate who grasps the specific issues confronting the constituency.
